JACKSON ROUTS PERRY IN FEDERAL LEAGUE OPENER

The Jackson High School football team improved to 3-1 overall by defeating Perry 38-7 Friday night in a contest that served as the Federal League opener for both teams. The Purple Army jumped to a 17-0 first quarter lead and never looked back in a dominant performance that was easily its best of the season.

IOWA STATE-AKRON FOOTBALL GAME HAS PLENTY OF LOCAL FLAVOR

The University of Akron football team looks to improve to 2-1 in the non- conference portion of the 2017 season when it hosts Big 12 foe Iowa State Saturday at noon. The game, which can be seen on the CBS Sports network, is the first meeting ever between the two schools on the gridiron, and the Zips will travel to Ames, Iowa next season as part of the home and home contract agreement.

2017 FEDERAL LEAGUE FOOTBALL PREVIEW

Calling the 2016 season a success for the Polar Bears might be the understatement of the century. Jackson's 7-4 record was good enough for its first playoff berth since 2004 and began perhaps the most storied year in the purple army's athletic history. Third year coach Tim Budd is hoping that momentum will carry over to 2017, where replacements must be found for a number of graduated players who were instrumental in last season's success. Six of the Polar Bears 10 regular season contests are at home in 2017, and that total includes five of Jackson's first six games.
