Week 6 Top Performers 2020 High School Football Season
The regular season is in the book and we are headed to the playoffs! It's been a beautiful last couple of weeks in Ohio and round 1 of the playoffs are shaping up to be another example of what makes fall in Ohio so special. Rivalry week has come and gone and there were some surprises (Massillon dominating McKinley, West Branch dominating Canton South and Dover staying within a touchdown of New Philadelphia) but in large part what we saw play it is what most people expected. I think there are a couple of teams in Stark County that can make a nice playoff run and New Philadelphia is built to lead the pack in Tuscarawas county. We are going to give you the best coverage of the high school football playoffs here at Big Time Sports so be sure to listen to the podcast each day and check out our schedule of TV games on our Facebook page. Let's look at some of the top performers in Week 6.
Willtrell Hartson RB (Massillon Tigers) The Tigers have so many weapons at the RB position that it could rival the Cleveland Browns! Hartson led the way in the Tigers dominating 35-7 victory of McKinley with 22 carries for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Caiden Woullard DE (Massillon Tigers) Since I can't give out an award to the entire Massillon defense which was outstanding I'll give it to Woullard who was a beast on the line and disrupted a number of McKinley drives including a sack on Wesley in the 2nd quarter.
Brock Hillyer QB (West Branch) One of the most impressive wins of Week 6 was West Branch's dominating 44-14 win over Canton South. Maybe one of the best QB's you haven't heard about should find himself starting to get some publicity in Stark County. Hillyer was 16-26 for 266 and 4 TD's.
Asian Burt RB/DB (St. Thomas Aquinas) Burt was unstoppable once again in the holy war of Stark County. He had 152 yards rushing on 12 carries with 2 touchdowns and also returned an interception back for a touchdown to lead the Knights to a 26-10 win over CCC.
Derk Hutchison QB (Malvern) Another great game from the Hornets QB to lead them to an undefeated regular season. He was 13 for 21 passing for 194 yards and 2 touchdowns and also added another score on the ground to lead Malvern to a 27-8 victory of East Canton.
Aaron Kovalchik Fairless Player of the Week (for all your legal needs call Aaron at 330-453-2772)
Ethan Brindley QB (Fairless Falcons) The Falcons finished the season at 4-2 heading to the playoffs to face VASJ. They will have to contend with the talented QB Brindley who can do a little bit of everything. He went 8 for 11 for 118 yards and 2 TD's and added 79 yards rushing on the ground to go along with 2 TD's.
Josh Lemon RB (Perry Panthers) Lemon put a stamp on why he should be Stark County Player of the Year with 22 carries for 189 yards and 4 TD's in the Panthers 42-0 win over GlenOak. Now we all await a possible Perry vs. Massillon showdown in the playoffs!
Samuel Thompson DB (Perry Panthers) The Perry defense has a lot of outstanding athletes and Thompson is one of them. He had 2 interceptions in the Panther's victory of GlenOak.
Logan Brady RB (Lake Blue Streaks) The Blue Streaks beat rival Green 32-21 as they head to the playoffs to face Columbus St. Charles. Brady had 18 carries for 147 yards and 2 TD's to lead the way for Lake.
Nicholas Maricocchi LB (Lake Blue Streaks) Maricocchi continues to lead the Blue Streaks defense and make the case why he should be defensive player of the year in the Federal League. He had 8 tackles in the game including 1 for a loss and 2 sacks.
Aaron Kovalchik Hoover Player of the Week (for all your legal needs call Aaron at 330-453-2772)
Elliot Tornow WR (Hoover Vikings) Our Big Time Sports player of the game in Hoover's 14-13 win over rival Jackson, Tornow was outstanding with 7 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown gave Hoover the lead and the eventual win.
Nolan Hooker RB (Marlington Dukes) Hooker is one of the better RB's in the area and I like their chances against Kenston in the opening round of the playoffs. Hooker had 150 yards rushing and 2 TD's to lead the Dukes to a 31-3 win over Minerva.
Jordan Mick QB (Northwest Indians) Arguably the most explosive offense in Stark County the Indians led by Mick finished the season undefeated and garnered a #1 seed in their region of the playoffs. Mick was 21 for 26 passing for 341 yards and 3 TD's and added another score on the ground in Northwest's 41-20 win over Loudonville.
Nicholas Dinkins WR (Northwest Indians) The Indians have so many weapons on offense and Dinkins is one of them. He had 9 receptions for an amazing 225 yards and 3 touchdowns in Northwest's win over Loudonville.
Cam Blair QB (Sandy Valley) Blair was unstoppable against Tusky Valley on Friday with an efficient 13/14 passing for 352 yards and 5 touchdowns. Blair will go down as one of the most prolific passers every to come through Stark County.
