Quarterback Baker Mayfield spoke to media members on Tuesday during his youth football camp in Norman, Oklahoma.
With fellow Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson's disciplinary hearings beginning on Tuesday amid reports that the league is pushing for at least a one-year suspension, Mayfield addressed the possibility of a reconciliation with the franchise.
"I think for that to happen there would have to be some reaching out," said Mayfield. "But we're ready to move on, I think - on both sides."
The Browns have been unsuccessful so far this offseason in trading away the former number one overall draft pick, who is due almost $19 million in guaranteed money for the 2022 season. Mayfield, who has been away from the Browns since the team traded for Watson back in March, was excused from attending mandatory minicamp earlier this month.
While Mayfield admitted he was "frustrated" that a trade had not occurred before minicamp, he also stated he has no ill feeling towards Browns fans: "I'm thankful for my four years in Cleveland. A ton of ups and downs and learning experiences I'll forever keep with me. ... The people in Cleveland, it's a great sports town. I'm thankful for it and there's no resentment to the city of Cleveland by any means."
Mayfield is coming off an injury-riddled 2021 season for Cleveland, in which he threw for 3,010 passing yards with 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions over 14 games. Over his first four NFL seasons, Mayfield has thrown for 92 touchdowns and 56 interceptions, and in 2020, he helped the Browns to their only playoff appearance (and victory) since 2003.
