Jimm Morris is set to become the next head coach of Strasburg-Franklin High School’s football program.
The school put out a press release on Wednesday, announcing that Morris’s hiring was approved by the Strasburg-Franklin Local Schools Board of Education.
“When conducting our search, we had several applicants,” said Strasburg athletic director Gary Spinell. “It became obvious we had the best coach internally. Coach Morris has the experience, knowledge, and passion for our community and students we were looking for.”
Morris, who currently works as an Intervention Specialist at Strasburg-Franklin High School and was recently named Teacher of the Year by the Tuscarawas Chamber of Commerce, returns for his second tenure with the Tigers after coaching the team from 2008 to 2012, originally succeeding former longtime Strasburg coach Ron Hurst. Over those five seasons, Morris’s teams sported an overall record of 16-34, including a 7-3 finish in 2010.
Via the press release, Coach Morris stated: “When the position came open, it was evident that the time was right to return to coaching the Tigers. I remained a teacher at Strasburg because my heart is there. This is where I want to be.”
After parting ways with the Tigers program in early 2013, Morris later worked on the coaching staffs at Dover and Sandy Valley High Schools. He was previously the head coach of the Cardinals from 2002 to 2007, finishing with a 23-27 record. His son, Maguire, played for the Crimson Tornadoes (2014-17) before moving on to
Marietta College’s program, and is now the
defensive backs coach for the Pioneers.
Strasburg’s football team has struggled to return to consistent success since its three consecutive playoff appearances from 2000 to 2002. Over the
last decade, the Tigers have managed four or more wins in a season just once (4-6 in 2017), and their last postseason appearance came in the
all-inclusive 2020 OHSAA campaign.
