Rachel Anderson has milked quite a few track and field and cross country victories for the Southern Illinois University during the past four years.

Milking those wins should come as no surprise for the former New Philadelphia High School running standout who grew up on her family’s dairy farm.
Anderson, a daughter of Dale and Gwyn Anderson, is in the midst of her senior season for the Salukis that began with cross country, followed with indoor track and is concluding with the outdoor season.
Her latest win came at the Gibson Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana on Saturday as she won the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:40.37.
The steeplechase is an obstacle race, which derives its name from the steeplechase in horse racing. The foremost version of the event is the 3000 meters.
Anderson won the women's 1500 meter run with a time of 4:40.42 as the Southern Illinois University track and field team hosted its first Bill Cornell Invitational since 2021 on April 7-8 in Carbondale.
In the women's 3000 meter steeplechase at the Raleigh Relays in late March, Anderson also set a personal best with a time of 10:24.17, which ranked ninth out of 34 athletes.
INDOOR SEASON
Anderson brought home the only first place finish for the Salukis at the Music City Challenge in Nashville in February, finishing first in the 3000 meter run with a time of 9:43.41.
At the Indiana Relays in late January, Anderson set a new SIU program record in the 5000 meter run with a 16:34.30, good for a third place finish.
Anderson was one of two first place Saluki finishers at the Notre Dame Invitational on Jan. 21 as she ran the second fastest time in SIU history in the mile with a mark of 4:47.78.
In the women's 3000 meters, Anderson topped the leaderboard after posting a time of 9:46.50 at the Badgers Midwest Invitational in Chicago Jan. 14 to open the season.
CROSS COUNTRY CAMPAIGN
Anderson ended her senior season in cross country as she finished 52nd overall at the NCAA Midwest Regional with a time of 21:10.5 in the women's 6000 meters.
She qualified for the regional after finishing 21:32.0 and sixth overall in the Missoui Valley Conference Cross Country Championships.
Anderson also was awarded to the Women's All-Conference First Team.
WHAT'S HER MAJOR?
Anderson is majoring in animal science. She selected her major because of the broad career path it gives her.
There is a great deal she can do with the degree including biotechnology, production management, animal nutrition, or animal behavior.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Anderson will compete in the 5000 meters at the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State University Friday and Saturday which will give area residents a chance to see her run for the Salukis.
Three regular season meets will follow, capped by the MVC Outdoor Championships and hopeful appearances in the NCAA Preliminary Round and NCAA National Championships.
