Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud has been announced as one of four finalists for the Heisman Trophy.
Stroud was one of four college quarterbacks who were announced on Monday as finalists for the award, along with Georgia's Stetson Bennett IV, USC's Caleb Williams, and TCU's Max Duggan. The winner of the Heisman Trophy will be announced on Saturday, Dec. 10 in New York.
Stroud, who finished fourth in last year's Heisman race, threw for 3,340 yards and 37 touchdowns, the latter of which was tied for the most in the country with USC's Williams. Williams, who surpassed 4000 passing yards this season while only throwing four interceptions, is the current odds-on favorite (-2500) to win the award despite the Trojans falling in the Pac-12 Championship to Utah and finishing outside the College Football Playoff.
Other finalists joining Stroud in the upcoming Playoff include Bennett, whose Bulldogs team will face the Buckeyes on Dec. 31 in the Peach Bowl semifinal. Bennett, who quarterbacked Georgia to a national championship last season, threw for 3,425 yards and 20 touchdowns while guiding the top-ranked Bulldogs to an undefeated regular season and SEC Championship victory.
Duggan guided the Horned Frogs to an undefeated regular season and a CFP berth, throwing for for 3,321 yards and 30 touchdowns this season as well as only four interceptions. Duggan and TCU will play the undefeated Michigan Wolverines on New Year's Eve in the Fiesta Bowl.
Should Stroud take home the Heisman on Saturday, he would be the seventh Buckeyes player in history to win the award, and the first since Troy Smith won in 2006.
Quarterbacks have won the Heisman Trophy 18 times since 2000, including five of the last six.
